Joyce, welcome to the Author Spotlight!
I met Joyce several years ago as we were starting to form a local Christian writer's group. I know that for most of you, authors who live more than 100 miles away from each other don't count as "local," but most people don't live in western South Dakota!
Joyce is the author of seven books, including historical fiction, contemporary, and one children's book.
I hope you enjoy learning to know this sweet lady!
Please tell us a little bit about yourself
I am a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, Christian, author, homemaker, and a lover of dogs, flowers, coffee and our ranching heritage. Add history buff, musician, collector of rocks, and an incurable re-arranger of furniture. My writing is a hobby, squeezed in between all these things, and it has added joy and interest to my life!
If you had to choose, and why –
Cake or Ice Cream?
Soft serve twist ice-cream cones are always high on my list!
Summer or Winter?
A hard question! I enjoy the flowers of summer, and the long cozy evenings beside the fireplace of winter. Sorry, can’t choose one over the other 😊
City or Country?
I love the peace of the country side. Nature is always inspiring, the prairie is always fascinating, and being able to see the sky and horizon meet is always exhilarating!
Who is your favorite character from your current work-in-progress?
My main character in my current work-in-progress is also my favorite one, and the more acquainted we become, the better I like him. He is a widowed father of two teenage daughters with a sarcastic sense of humor. He is fiercely protective of his girls, and yet, endearingly vulnerable to their well-being.
What does your writing space look like?
My writing space is always messy. Opened books sprawled all over, jumbled notes that make little sense hiding in all sorts of places, an undecipherable notebook telling me to recheck this and that for accuracy–––it can be neat and clean when I enter and extremely jumbled when I leave.
What are you reading right now?
John MacArthur’s commentary on Second Peter.
What is at the top of your “bucket list?”
A hot air balloon ride
What is your most recent release, and where can we buy it?
‘If Mirrors could talk’ is the most recent of the stand-alone fiction, and is available as an e-reader at the usual places, and also in soft cover on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and my publisher, Booklocker. I also sell directly from home and those books are all autographed. Local stores in the South Dakota towns of the Philip, Kadoka, Interior areas also carry my books, as well as local libraries, and a book co-op in Sioux Falls.
