My guest on the Author Spotlight this month is Mary Connealy!
Not only is Mary a first-class author with many books to her name (A Man With a Past makes 65 books and novellas, and that number just keeps increasing,) but she is also a willing and fun mentor to aspiring authors.
I hope you enjoy getting to know her!
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I’m married for 43 years to my high school sweetheart, a Nebraska cattleman. I have four grown daughters. My most recent release is Braced for Love, book #64 (released March 2, 2021.) I wrote for ten years before I got my first book published which is either a testament to hard work, determination, and the American Dream….or I have obsessive compulsive disorder. I’m not sure which.
I vote for hard work and determination!
If you had to choose, and why:
Cake or Ice Cream?
Ice Cream, but I’m not sure why. I didn’t get into my current shape by turning down dessert of any kind.
Summer or Winter?
On the most viciously hot, mosquito infested, 100% humidity, 110 degree day in August…I still hate winter.
And even on the coldest, snowiest, freeze-your-toes-off winter's day, I still love winter. How did we end up on the same planet????
City or Country?
Oh, man. Country no contest. Of course I’ve never lived in a city. Who knows?
Me, too! Country all the way! (And I HAVE lived in cities!)
Who is your favorite character from your current work-in-progress?
Ok, my WIP is a long way in the future. But I love my heroine. Jilly who has a photographic memory, is trained as a civil engineer in 1873 California. Is building a railroad and loves bossing people around. She’d under enormous pressure to marry but not only does she not want to, she’s afraid to. Discovering why is the whole point of this book.
Can't wait to read this one!
What does your writing space look like?
It’s a recliner in my living room. I can write anywhere. I’m very low maintenance.
What are you reading right now?
I have Erica Vetsch’s Indebted Earl on the table beside me.
One of my favorite authors, too!
What is at the top of your "bucket list?"
I’ve sworn off bucket lists. I used to want to do so many things. Parachute jump. Climb a mountain (not like EVEREST or anything, just wander in the Rockies), see the Coliseum in Rome and visit the Sphinx, ride and elephant. Now I have what I call a Reverse Bucket List. I think of things I used to want to do and just shake my head and wonder WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!??? I think of that parachute jump and just check it off the list and feel good about coming to my senses in time. I’d like to see Yellowstone, but probably not enough to go there. Maybe Google Earth?
You need to take that trip to Yellowstone. You can stop by my place on the way.
Tell us about your newest release.
My newest release is A Man with a Past. My hero has amnesia!!! I’ve written one other amnesia book and it’s TRICKY. All the thoughts a character has…and that’s a common thing in a book…don’t work if the hero can’t think things like, “He hadn’t liked a woman this much before ever.” He can’t think that because he can’t remember. It’s a stumbling block.
I love that cover!
